Day of the Dead, Sugar Skull Face Painting in Old Town San Diego

I want to thank everybody who came out to visit me during the Day of the Dead celebration in Old Town San Diego. The turn out was great and since November 2nd fell during the middle of the week, I was painting sugar skulls from the weekend before thru the weekend after Day of the Dead.

Sugar Skull Customer from Whittier, CA

One pleasant surprise was the many return customers that came to get face painted by me from previous years.  Some came from as far San Francisco, Los Angles and Riverside. I was honored that they sought me out to paint their sugar skulls again.

Child with Stencil of Grim Reaper incorporated into her Sugar Skull Face PaintingI used new techniques this year that turned out to be quite successful.  For many of the children, I incorporated stencils into their sugar skulls including cats, witches and pumpkins that mix in the autumn and halloween themes.

I face painted ladies of all ages. I applied the makeup very delicately to best fit each skin type as if I were applying my own makeup. One of the highlights of the face paintings for the ladies this year was only using theatre makeup that already had shimmer in the powders and in the white base.  No glitter was need as it already shined in a beautiful, feminine manner.

For the men who had beards, I decided not to cover up their beards with the white base. I instead opted to work around their beard and applied the teeth to the side.  They absolutely loved it.

The lines were long and I tried to face paint as many people as I could. I want to say thank you to everybody who waited in the long lines to get their faces painted by me.

If you didn’t get the chance to be face painted during this Day of the Dead weekend, I am usually set up at the San Diego Old Town Market when I’m not doing a private event.  You might even get to meet BLUEtiful the Clown. We paint exactly the same… Ha!  You may call (619) 518-4566 to check my schedule or make an appointment with me for a face painting or a party booking.
